FINNISH MODEL SUVI KOPONEN

Dear readers of Sport & Beauty. Continuing with our trip through fashion and beauty, today we're calling at Finland in order to meet young Finnish model Suvi Kuponen. Suvi is a regular face on the runways worldwide and has walked for several of the most renowned designers such as Anna Sui, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Anne Klein, Blumarine, Miu Miu, BCBG Max Azria, Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci, and Prada. Besides, she has starred in ad campaigns for Emporio Armani and Calvin Klein and is also a regular face in the best fashion magazines like "Vogue", "Elle", "Numéro", "Dazed & Confused", and "Harper's Bazaar". Dear readers let me introduce this stunning Finnish beauty called Suvi Koponen. I hope you like it.

Suvi Maria Koponen was born in Vantaa, Finland, on March 26, 1988. She rose to fame in 2005 after winning Mallikoulu, a Finnish TV contest comparable to the famous America’s Next Top Model, what earned Suvi a contract with Finnish model agency Paparazzi. Suvi Koponen made her debut on the runway walking in all major 2006/2007 Fall Winter Fashion Weeks. In September 2006, as an exclusive, she opened and closed in Milan Prada’s 2007 Spring fashion show and also as an exclusive she walked in Paris for Miu Miu’s 2007 Spring Summer fashion show being included by Style.com on the list of the top ten models of the season.

Suvi started to become a regular face in fashion magazines in November 2005 when she landed the cover of the Finnish magazine “Pâp” In 2006 Suvi returned to “Pàp” and appeared in the cover of German magazine “Amica”. 2007 was a milestone in her career. As early as in February, Suvi landed the cover of “Vogue Beaute” France, opened in New York Jill Stuart’s Spring fashion show, walked also in New York for Anna Sui and Marc by Marc Jacobs, opened in Milan Marni’s Fall fashion show and walked in Milan and Paris for Jill Sander’s, Chanel’s, Hermès’, and Nina Ricci’s Fall fashion shows. In March she appeared in “Vogue” Italy twice and closed in Paris Nina Ricci’s Fall fashion show. During the following months the Finnish model landed the cover of “Dazed & Confused”, starred in Blumarine’s Spring ad campaign and in Mulberry’s Fall ad campaign (together with Brazilian model Caroline Trentini), replaced Russian model Natalia Vodianova as the image of Calvin Klein Collection and starred in Balenciaga’s Fall ad campaign together with Anabela Belikova. Still in September 2007 Suvi was considered by “Vogue” UK as one of its “Head Girls”, a model to watch closely for the next season. This same month, the Finnish model opened in New York Reem Acra’s 2008 Spring fashion show, closed Carolina Herrera’s, Jill Stuart’s, and DKNY’s ones and opened in Milan Alberta Ferretti’s, Anna Molinari’s, Fendi’s and Just Cavalli’s shows closing Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s and Roberto Cavalli’s ones. She finally closed 2008 appearing in editorials for both “W” and “Vogue” UK (October) and “Vogue” and “Vogue” UK (November).

In January 2008 Suvi walked in Paris for Chanel’s, Christian Dior’s, Christian Lacroix’s, and Givenchy’s Spring couture fashion shows. In February she appeared in an editorial for “Vogue” UK, opened in New York and Milan Hervé Léger’s, DKNY’s, Moschino’s Cheap & Chic, and Salvatore Ferragamo’s Fall fashion shows closing in New York, London, and Milan Alexander Wang’s, Alexandre Herchcovitch’s, BCBG Max Azria’s, Carolina Herrera’s, Paul Smith’s, Topshop’s, Iceberg’s and Marni’s ones. During the following months Suvi landed the cover of “Numéro” (March), appeared in editorials for “W” and “Vogue” France (April), “Vogue” Japan (August) and editorial and interview for “Harper’s Bazaar” (September). Still in September she closed in Milan Marni’s 2009 Spring fashion show. She finally appeared in editorials for “W” and “Numéro” Korea (October) and “Vogue” France (December).

The following year Suvi Koponen decided to skip the traditional Spring season Fashion Weeks held in February although she reappeared in March in “V” and “Harper’s Bazaar” magazines. Afterwards, Suvi appeared in an editorial for “Vogue” Italy (May) and “i-D” (June), and starred in Emporio Armani’s Fall ad campaign. Back to the runway in September, she walked in New York and Paris for Marc Jacobs’, Proenza Schouler’s and Rick Owens’ 2010 Spring fashion shows. In November Suvi became “model of the week” for Wmagazine.com and at the end of the year she left Supreme Management to sign a contract with Next Models.

In 2010 and 2011 the Finnish model kept on working but not at such a frantic pace. In February 2010 the Finnish model walked in New York for Marc Jacobs and Richard Chai Love and in September closed in Milan Versace’s 2011 Spring fashion show walking also for Marc by Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Chloe, Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent. In February 2011 she walked in New York for Ohne Titel’s and Richard Chai’s Fall fashion shows appearing also in an editorial of “Dazed & Confused”. Out of curiosity we’ll say that her favorite place is the Maldives (where she shot an editorial for “Vogue” UK) and that she got a number five tattooed on her back representing both her family members and her lucky number. She also has the word “imported” tattooed under her breast, three slashes tattooed on her left wrist and the inscription “Cat” tattooed on her right hand as a tribute to one of her best friends, fellow model Catherine McNeil. About her private life we can say that Suvi is dating model Tyler Riggs with whom you can see her in the last picture.
